The Muse Presents Howie MacDonald

  • The Tipsy Muse Cafè 86 Regent Street (map)

Cape Breton fiddling legend, Howie MacDonald makes his Muse debut in June

Howie MacDonald & FriendsHowie MacDonald is a legend in Cape Breton fiddling. A performer since a very young age, he grew up surrounded by the music which has influenced his playing over the years. His lively Cape Breton style of fiddling has entertained audiences all over the world.

A former band member with the Rankin Family for many years, Howie has released several solo recordings and is also featured on many of the Rankin Family recordings.

Howie will be celebrating his new CD, which is released this month, "Shades of Tartan" - This uplifting, energetic instrumental collection is just what the doctor ordered. Many brand new compositions of Howie’s will be heard for the first time, including Mac’s Reel, Brian and Tanna’s Jig, and Clarence Deveaux’s Trip to Belgium. The album is a family affair, with daughter Kristen providing percussive step-dance, brother Michael on piano, and includes Jillian’s Jig, a tune he wrote for his daughter.

Howie adds Fender Rhodes, electric guitar, and stomp box to a few of tracks, giving the album a fresh sound. Yet other tracks have a classic sound harkening back to the 1970s golden era of outdoor concerts and sweaty dance-halls.

Tickets for this special performance are $15 (plus taxes and fees) advance, $20 on the day of the show.
